Before Purchasing your Dog Silencer Pro™:
What is the
“Radius” of the DSP? How far does it reach?
The sound emitted from the Dog Silencer Pro expands in a
“cone” shape totaling about 120 degrees or up to 60 degrees on
either side. The sound will be most powerful and have the
best training results if the unit is pointed directly at the dog
you would like to train. Follow the link to see an illustration
of the
Dog Silencer Pro's range.
How and where do I set it up?
When setting up the Dog Silencer Pro, there are three
switches you'll need to set:
- The On/Off switch
- The High/Low Microphone Sensitivity – a dial that can
be adjusted from low to high, always start on low.
- The Audio/Ultra Switch – you choose the type of sound
you want emitted from the Dog Silencer Pro (Audio
everyone can hear; Ultrasound only the dog can hear).
Does it have to be on “all” the
time?
For best results, the unit needs to be ON and in use near the
dog at all times. This unit is a training device, so the
dog needs to hear this activate each and every time he barks.
The unit will go into a “stand by” mode when the dog is not
barking. During this stand by time no power is being used,
but the unit must remain “on.”
How does this actually Work, and How
soon will I see Results?
While many customers see the affects
of the Dog Silencer Pro within a few days, this unit is a
training device and will depend on how quickly the dog
associates the ultrasound as a result of his barking. We
strongly recommend you give the unit two to three weeks to see
full results. This powerful training system is based on
Pavlov’s Studies, which you may read about here:
"How It Works".
Is there anything illegal about
using this unit on my neighbor’s dog?
As far as we know, there are no legality issues with the Dog
Silencer Pro. This device is designed to be safe, humane
alternative to other bark control methods such as shock collars
and vocal cord surgery. Because of this, the Dog Silencer
Pro comes highly recommended by Kennels, Veterinarians, and even
Law Enforcement.
Before using the Dog Silencer Pro, we recommend talking with
your neighbors about their dog's barking. Many times being
direct and honest about your concern will go a long way towards
solving the problem and maintaining a healthy relationship
between you and your neighbor. Always check your local city and county laws for the most up-to-date information.
Special Notes:
- Saint Cloud Minnesota (US): The use of ultrasonic devices is against city ordinance.
- Warren, Ohio Township (US): IT is illegal to use audible sound-emitting devices that can be heard more than 50 feet from your property line; specifically 15dBA above the ambient noise on the receiving property. (This would apply to the Dog Silencer Pro while used in the "Audio" mode.
Will this hurt my dog’s ears or harm
my dog’s hearing?
The Dog Silencer Pro uses a high-pitched ultrasound that is
designed to simply “irritate” the dog. It is not designed to
cause pain or harm to their ears (we compare it to someone
dragging their fingernails on a blackboard). We do not recommend
using the Dog Silencer Pro with puppies under 1 year of age. Please consult your
veterinarian before using this product with puppies.
Will the dog ever bark again?
What if he really needs to bark?
The sound from the Dog Silencer Pro, although irritating, is
not designed to hinder 100% of your dog’s barking. If your
dog “needs” to bark, he can. The Dog Silencer Pro will not train
the dog to stop barking out of instinct (at an intruder for
example).
I don’t want my neighbors to know I
am using this device on their dog.
This is very common; most of our customers are purchasing this
device to train their neighbor’s dog. Before using the Dog
Silencer Pro, we recommend talking with your neighbors about
their dog's barking. Many times being direct and honest about
your concern will go a long way towards solving the problem and
maintaining a healthy relationship between you and your
neighbor.
The Dog Silencer Pro cannot work through solid objects, so it
needs to be installed higher than any solid fences, walls, or
hedges between your and your neighbor's properties.
However, because of its dark green color, the DSP can be
cleverly disguised in a bird house or hanging plant, for
example. Just be sure the front of the unit is left
unobstructed and has a clear line of sight with the dog you wish
to train. As long as the unit is left on “Ultra” sound,
only the dog should be able to hear it, and its use can remain
discreet with your neighbors.

Do
I operate this on battery or electricity?
Either one! For the base price of $89.95, you get the Dog
Silencer Pro, its rain jacket, and the keychain remote control.
If you chose this base option, you will run the unit on a 9V
battery. However, an optional AC adaptor power cord may be
purchased for $20.00; this includes a 60-foot waterproof
extension cord.
Please Do not
use after-market AC Adaptors (those not purchased from Good
Life) with the Dog Silencer Pro. This will void your warranty.
How long does the battery last?
Can I use rechargeable batteries?
Yes, you may use rechargeable batteries. Battery Life varies
on the dog’s barking habits since the device only turns on when
the dog barks. When first using the Dog Silencer Pro, the dog
will be barking constantly since it has yet to make the
connection between its barking and the sound frequencies. So
during first use, the batteries will last approximately 3-5 days. Battery life will depend on:
- How often the device is Activated (or how many
dogs are setting it off)
- Weather Conditions (extreme heat or cold will drain a
battery quickly)
- Battery Quality – always start with a new, fresh
battery.
I am located outside the U.S.
Do you have an AC Adaptor specific for my country?
Yes! We now have AC Adaptors available for almost every location. We have:
- 220-240v GS (2-round-pin); commonly used throughout Europe
- 220-240v BS (3-square-pin); used in the UK and Ireland
- 240v (2-diagonal-pin); used in Australia, New Zealand and China
Please Do not
use after-market AC Adaptors (those not purchased from Good
Life) with the Dog Silencer Pro. This will void your warranty. If you need a different type of adaptor other than what is listed above, Please Contact Us for information & specifications.

What is the little keychain remote
for? How far does it reach?
Even though the DSP can “hear” barking up to 60-ft. away, the
corrective ultrasound emitted from the unit can actually travel
up to 300 feet in a clear, straight path. If the dog is
100 feet away, for example, his barking probably won’t activate
the unit automatically. However, pressing the remote
control will activate the DSP manually and the dog will still be
able to hear the corrective sound.
If for some reason Rover is outside the Dog Silencer Pro's 75 foot sound sensor range, you can manually trigger the device with the simple press of a button. The remote control can be used from inside your home, car, or even in your pocket! As an additional option, you can turn the Dog Silencer Pro microphone sensitivity all the way down and solely activate your Pro using the remote control. Not only does this special convenience allow you to train dogs more than 75 feet away, but you can customize your own dog's training to include staying off furniture, away from the trash and anything else you want to teach your dog to do. The keychain remote can be used up to 75 feet away from the main unit.

My dog (or
my neighbor’s dog) wears a collar for an Invisible/Electric
Fence System. Will the Dog Silencer Pro work in
combination with this?
No. We do not recommend using sonic or ultrasonic bark control devices with invisible or electric fences. Here's why:
Invisible/ Electronic Fence systems use a very similar
high-pitched tone to “warn” the dog when he gets too close to
the boundary of his yard. If he goes any further after
hearing this tone, his collar emits a shock. Since the Dog
Silencer Pro (and all of our sound-based products) uses a very
similar tone, this can confuse the dog. Since he has
already associated this tone with his property boundaries, he
most likely will not be able to associate it with his barking.
The same problem can occur if you try to use a “shocking” bark
collar on your dog with an invisible fence system. If the
dog becomes confused between the two systems, this can actually
make the barking worse. If you are using an invisible
fence system, we recommend using a completely different stimulus
to stop barking, such as a citrus-spray or vibrating collar.
This way the dog will learn different outcomes for the two
different behaviors (boundaries versus barking).
Can the Dog Silencer Pro work through fences, windows, or walls
or bushes?
The high-pitched ultrasound emitted by the Dog Silencer Pro
will NOT penetrate any solid objects such as wood fences,
windows, walls or thick shrubbery. Sparse trees, window
screens, chain link and rod-iron fences should be okay. Please
see our
Video on using the Dog Silencer Pro indoors or through walls.
Can the Dog Silencer Pro work inside my apartment/condo for the
dog next door?
Unfortunately No, as the unit cannot work through walls (see
above). At this time we do not know of any device that can
control barking through walls.
Can the Dog Silencer Pro work from a 2nd story window or
balcony?
Yes, but we recommend aiming the unit down into the yard for
best results. The more you can aim the unit towards the
dog, the better this product will work!
Is
this unit waterproof? What is the “rain jacket”?
Although the unit is not 100% water proof, it is water
resistant and designed to be used safely outdoors. For the
best care of your unit, we recommend using the rain jacket
(included) for outdoor use. Try to position the DSP in an
area where it will have some kind of shelter – For example mount
the unit on the side of your home under the eave of your roof,
or place the unit under a covered patio. Many of our
customers have designed creative “houses” for their Dog Silencer
Pro… The photos below come to us all the way from Mexico!

Should I leave it outside during extreme hot or cold weather?
We recommend that you bring the Dog Silencer Pro inside if the temperature falls below -20°C/-4°F or above 50°C/122°F. Outside of this range the electronic components in the unit can become damaged, which will void your warranty. Please keep in mind that it is best to use your AC adaptor at temperatures below freezing (0°C/32°F), as battery life may be significantly decreased in extreme weather conditions.
I
have a particularly small or large dog. Will this work for my
dog?
Our exclusive Sound Sweep Technology™
fluctuates through a range of sonic (audible) or ultrasonic
(inaudible to humans) high pitched sound waves to target dogs
with the most annoying frequency. Small dogs are typically
more sensitive to higher pitched sounds, while larger dogs are
typically more sensitive to the lower pitches. Each time
the Dog Silencer Pro is activated it will range through a
variety of sound pitches and patterns. This not only
ensures the best pitch for your dog’s size or breed, but it
prevents the dog from growing accustomed to the sound.
Can I use the Dog Silencer Pro with a puppy?
We do not recommend using the Dog Silencer Pro on puppies under 1 year of age.
Please consult your veterinarian before using this product with
puppies.
Will this work for whining or howling?
If the Dog Silencer Pro is fairly close to the dog, you may be
able to adjust the microphone sensitivity higher to pick up
howling or even whining. If this doesn’t work, you might
consider our Ultimate Dog Silencer Collar for your dog.
Will this bother my other pets?
Cats and dogs do have very similar hearing ranges, so if your
cat is near the unit when it’s activated, yes, it will probably
bother the cat. However, the sound from the Dog Silencer
Pro does not go through walls or around corners. For
example, if the DSP is located in the back yard, and your cat is
in the front yard or even in the house, the sound should not
bother him at all. If the DSP is being used indoors,
you’ll want to keep cats and/or rodent pets out of the area
where that is being used.
Can I use the Dog Silencer Pro to keep stray dogs off my
property?
Although the Dog Silencer Pro can be remote-activated, a
better product for repelling dogs (or other pests) off your
property is our
Guardian 12-in-1 Indoor/Outdoor Pest Repeller.

What is the difference between the New and Refurbished Dog
Silencer Pro?
As per our 30 Day Money Back Guarantee, our customers can
return the Dog Silencer Pro for a refund, if for any reason it
did not work for their situation. “Refurbished” units are
previously owned, but they are cleaned and tested to make sure
they work like new (they may just have some minor scratches or
scuff marks). Refurbished units carry the same 30 Day
Money Back Guarantee as our new products, and they carry a 6 Month Manufacturer’s Warranty against defects (our new products
carry a one-year manufacturer’s warranty).

Troubleshooting Common
Issues with your Dog Silencer Pro™:
Is the "High-Low" dial on the side of the unit used to adjust
Volume?
The high-low dial on the side of the unit is used to customize
the microphone sensitivity. This is not a volume setting. You
may adjust the sensitivity of the bark sensor between High (if
the dog is far away) and Low (if the dog is close to the unit,
or if the unit is being used indoors). We recommend you start
with the unit on low, and then increase the sensitivity as
needed. There is no volume adjustment necessary on the Dog
Silencer Pro, as the ultrasonic frequencies can travel up to 300
feet in a clear, unobstructed path.
I know it’s a training device, but
my dog has no immediate/ initial reaction to the DSP sounds.
It can be difficult to “wait” for this to work, but please be
patient. This product is not designed to work instantly,
but over a short training period. The dog needs time to
learn that he’s going to hear this irritating noise each and
every time he barks. Each dog will learn at their own
pace, and unfortunately some dogs are more stubborn than others.
Remember, your 30 day trial period does not begin until the day
your product is delivered.
My
dog is barking MORE than before I started using the DSP.
This is actually a good sign! This means that your DSP
is set up and adjusted correctly, because the dog is hearing
this noise and he certainly does not like it! This stage
is common in the training process, and should only last for a
few days to about a week. Shortly after this stage, the
dog figures out that the unit only makes noise when he barks.
My
remote doesn’t light up any more, or the remote lights up but is
not activating the DSP.
Your remote probably just needs a new battery. There are
two very small screws on the back of the remote so you can
remove the battery cover. The remote uses a 23A 12V
battery (L1028, EL12, VR22 alkaline). We recommend taking
the old battery to the store when you go to purchase a new
battery.
The
DSP is emitting sound randomly or continuously.
- If you are running the unit on battery, try
replacing the battery. When the unit detects a low
battery it will start sounding at random (similar to
a smoke alarm with a dead battery).
- Lower the microphone sensitivity. Sometimes if this
dial is up too high, other nearby sounds may activate
the Dog Silencer Pro.
- Try turning the unit completely off for a few
minutes. Turn the unit back on again. This should
allow the unit to reset.
- If this does not help, please contact our Customer
Care Department at 1-541-245-4488 to further troubleshoot
your situation.

This
seemed to have a very powerful affect on my dog at first,
but now suddenly he seems to ignore it. What can I try now?
- If you are running the unit on battery, first try
replacing the battery.
- Press the button on the remote control to make sure
the unit is still activating properly. On the “Ultra”
